Berkeley balcony collapse: President Higgins to plant tree in California in memory of tragic students
President Michael D Higgins is to plant a tree in Berkeley in memory of the six students who tragically died following an apartment balcony collapse.
The poignant event will be part of an eight-day trip to the west coast of the United States.
Accompanied by his wife Sabina, President Higgins plans to travels to Seattle, and is set to deliver a keynote address at the University of Washington.

The Presidential party will then depart for California where they will meet Governor Jerry Brown and speak at the University of California in Berkeley.
First responders, volunteers and all who helped following the balcony tragedy will be visited with President Higgins.
