Beach remains are those of Dubliner

THE remains of a man's body found on a beach in the UK more than a decade ago have been positively identified as those of a missing Dublin man.

Forensic tests have confirmed that the human remains found at Annaside Beach in Bootle, Cumbria, north-west England, on December 15, 2000, are those of John Crawford from Tallaght, south Dublin.

The identification was made using DNA samples obtained by the Garda Serious Crime Review team in liaison with Cumbrian police.

Mr Crawford's family has been informed. Foul play is not suspected in his death.
