Baxter healthcare to cut over 100 jobs in Castlebar

A KEY employer in Taoiseach Enda Kenny's hometown is to shed 110 jobs by early next year.

American pharmaceutical firm Baxter Healthcare is looking for voluntary redundancies at its site in Castlebar, Co Mayo.

The company employs almost 1,000 at plants in Castlebar and Swinford.

It is understood that only the Castlebar plant will be affected by the latest jobs cull.

It is understood that the redundancy programme will be completed by next March.

Baxter Healthcare manufactures kidney dialysis products.

The company has been in Mayo for more than 40 years.

Just last week Castlebar was celebrating the creation of 150 new jobs from UK firm Northgate at an information technology centre.
