A MILITARY barracks closed last year to save money could be redeveloped as a dynamic part of a town centre with a theatre, art gallery, Garda HQ and educational facilities.
South Tipperary County Council and Clonmel Borough Council have sought experts to help develop a masterplan for the 4.5 hectare Kickham Barracks site in Clonmel, which closed in March last year.
The council plans to develop a "dynamic, innovative and creative" quarter which will be located just 400 metres from the town centre.
Tender documents propose a new urban civic space to act as a focal point for recreational, cultural, celebratory and other events, along with a new gallery and theatre. Submissions must be filed by November 15 next.
