Barracks' sell-off nets State ?33m

THE disposal of six military barracks, earmarked for closure six years ago, has resulted in total gain to the State of over ?33m, writes Tom Brady, Security Editor.Defence Minister Willie O'Dea also told the Dail that the Government has spent almost ?2m on providing security and another ?500,000 on maintenance on the six military barracks.

Mr O'Dea promised that he had no plans to close any other barracks or to alter the status of military posts at Finner Camp, outside Lifford, Co Donegal, or at Rockhill House, Letterkenny.
