Banville chalks up award with PEN

AUTHOR John Banville feels honoured to see actors like Ciaran Hinds and Sinead Cusack bring his characters to life.

Hinds and Cusack recently shot a movie adaptation of Banville's 'The Sea', while Hollywood veteran Gabriel Byrne is shooting 'Quirke', a BBC series based on his books.

"It's always a great thrill seeing a living human being literally fleshing out one's words," the Man Booker prize winner told the Irish Independent after adding another award to his mantelpiece this week. He has just been announced as the 2013 recipient of the Irish PEN Award for Outstanding Contribution to Irish Literature.
