Ban on fur farming is called for by animal welfare groups

The Green Party has been called on to introduce legislation banning fur farming in Ireland.

'Compassion in World Farming' have said more than 166,000 mink and 600 foxes are reared for their fur here every year.

It is one of a number of groups meeting in Dublin today for the All Ireland Animal Welfare Conference.

'Compassion in World Farming' spokesperson Mary-Anne Bartlett has said she's hopeful that the Green's presence in Government will lead to a ban on fur farms. Comments Facility

INM has taken the decision to remove the commenting facility on its online platform to minimise the legal risk to our business that arises from Ireland's draconian libel awards system.
