Baby boy found dead at apartment

Gardai are investigating the death of an 11-month old baby boy in Kerry this evening.

Emergency services were called to an apartment at Upper High Street, in Killarney at 6pm this evening.

The baby was treated at the scene but was pronounced dead a short time later. The circumstances of the baby’s death are not yet known.

A man in his 30s has been taken to the University Hospital in Tralee where he is receiving medical treatment for serious injuries.

The baby’s body remains at the scene which is currently preserved.

The Office of the State Pathologist has been informed and a preliminary examination will be carried out by the Dr Margot Bolster later this evening. The post mortem will give an indication of the cause of the child's death and what direction any investigation may take.
