A-Wear receiver to open stores for Christmas

A-wear: The troubled fashion chain was closed last week before four stores were allowed to continue trading.

THE new receiver appointed to fashion chain A-Wear plans to have at least 10 of the stores back up and running for the Christmas period.

The receiver has also pledged to honour gift cards and vouchers up until Christmas Eve.

Four shops in Blanchardstown, Dundrum, Grafton Street, all in Dublin, and one outlet in Sligo have been kept open following the failure of its examinership, and the appointment of a receiver to take control of the business last week.

Receiver Ken Fennell says he intends to reopen another five or six shops by next week. The locations have not yet been decided. The decision will still leave 20 to 21 Irish outlets closed during the busy Christmas period.

"The receiver will assess the feasibility of trading some of the stores over the coming days and it is inevitable that some stores will cease to trade," said Mr Fennell, of accounting firm Kavanagh Fennell.
