The winner in the under-18 category of the An Taisce Clean Coast Photography Awards was Gearoid Gibbs for his shot of Curracloe Beach, Co Wexford, on a spring morning.

Andy McInroy clinched the over-18 category for his dramatic photograph of sea swells around Fanad Lighthouse in Co Donegal.

Annabel McLoone, Blue Flag and Green Coast awards manager, said there had been huge interest in the competition.

"There were over 500 photographs entered into this competition illustrating the vast character of our coastline, from Fanad in Donegal to the Skelligs in Cork.

"From dolphins to surfers and from families enjoying a day out at the beach to dramatic seascapes, these photographs truly captured the essence of the Irish coastline."

The competition had a prize fund of €3,000.

The winning photos will be showcased at art venues across the country, along with eight runners-up.
