Authors get ship-shape to celebrate literature

WRITERS Sheila O'Flanagan, John Lonergan and Martina Devlin will be getting on board the "Great Writing Great Places" series this autumn, which will be part of the Dublin UNESCO City of Literature celebrations taking place in the capital.

Ms Devlin will be among the writers reading stories about emigration and loss aboard the Jeanie Johnston famine ship, pictured in the background, on Monday evening.

Mr Lonergan will recount stories of courage and determination at Jonathan Swift's former home in the Liberties on September 21, while Ms O'Flanagan will discuss the Celtic Tiger-era "lost society" at the Powerscourt Townhouse Centre next month.
