Authorities confiscate cannabis worth €1.5m

Gardai have seized cannabis worth €1.5m on the streets in six separate operations over the past two days.

As a result of an intelligence- led operation with Revenue, officers confiscated nine kilos of herbal cannabis with a street value of €180,000 at Dublin Airport.

They had been concealed in a cargo consignment that arrived here from Spain. A Romanian national was being questioned last night at Store Street station in Dublin.

During follow-up searches two stun guns were also seized.

Two men are being held at Ballyshannon station in Co Donegal after local gardai, backed up by the regional support unit, searched a house in Ballintra and found 300 cannabis plants, with a street value of €240,000. Both suspects are in their 60s.

During another joint intelligence-led operation involving the Revenue, garda national drugs unit and north central drugs unit, a 25-year-old man was stopped and searched at Berkeley Road in the north inner city and was found with herbal cannabis worth €180,000. He is also being held at Store Street station.
