Australian police are examining CCTV footage to discover how an Irish man came to enter Sydney's Darling Harbour.
Brendan Hickey (34) was at the opening night of Vivid Festival before he tragically drowned.
Two friends jumped fully clothed into the harbour to save their friend but their efforts were in vain.
A major emergency response was launched by officers from the Marine Area Command on Friday night.
Mr Hickey's lifeless body was subsequently recovered.

Marine area Command Acting Superintendent Joe McNulty told journalists that officers were still attempting to understand how the Irish man came to enter the water.
"We haven't been able to confirm a trip, a fall or a push," Acting Supt McNulty said.
"All witnesses said they heard (was) a splash and then they saw the 34-year-old man in the water.
"Our investigators are looking at the events that led up to the incident, where they were during the evening.
Brendan's brother Shane posted a photo of himself and his brother on his Facebook page and his friends responded with an outpouring of sympathy.
