Attorney General and two TDs in mourning

CABINET colleagues passed on their sympathies yesterday to the Government's legal adviser, Maire Whelan, following the death of her mother, writes Fionnan Sheahan.

Fine Gael TD Derek Keating was also in mourning following the sudden death of his mother. And Independent TD Mick Wallace lost his aunt in a car crash on Sunday.

The Attorney General's mother, Katie Whelan, died at the weekend in Galway.

Rebecca Keating (82) died on New Year's Day, just a few hours after her admission to St James's Hospital the evening before, after she became unwell at home.

Mr Wallace's 69-year-old aunt, Margaret Wallace, from Wexford town died when her car hit a ditch outside New Ross.

She was the second wife of the Independent TD's uncle, James Wallace.
