Attacker pours boiling water over couple asleep in bed

A SLEEPING couple were attacked by a man who poured boiling water over them.

The horrific attack which happened at a Galway housing estate in the early hours of Sunday morning left both victims with serious injuries requiring hospital treatment.

The couple, a man in his 30s and a woman in her early 40s, were asleep in their bedroom at Cooke's Terrace, Bohermore near Galway city centre.

Yesterday, a garda spokesperson said they were following a definite line of enquiry.

'DOMESTIC'

It is believed that the the attacker, who broke into the house and fled after the attack was known to the victims and that the incident may have been of a 'domestic' nature.

Gardai and an ambulance were called and the couple were taken to University College Hospital Galway.

In a search in Bohermore, gardai arrested a man in his mid-30s and questioned him at Galway garda station.

It is understood that he will face charges in court in the near future in connection with the attack.

The woman was released from hospital following treatment, but the man received serious injuries and is now being treated at a Dublin hospital.
