Attack victim dies from injuries

One of the suspects arrested over an assault on a new year's reveller is being held at Tallaght Garda station. The reveller has died of his injuries.

A New Year's Eve reveller attacked by up to six people has died from his injuries.

The 20-year-old had been fighting for his life since he was viciously assaulted on Saint Dominic's Road, Tallaght at around 4am yesterday.

Gardai said the man, named locally as Dale Creighton, died this afternoon.

Two men - aged 27 and 23 years - were arrested this afternoon in connection with the attack and are being held at Tallaght and Rathfarnham Garda stations.

They are being questioned under section four of the Criminal Justice Act.

Another man and a woman have both appeared in court in relation to the assault.

Mr Creighton was set upon at a pedestrian bridge at Priorsgate on the Saint Dominic's Road/N81 in Tallaght.

He was taken from the scene to the Adelaide and Meath Hospital, Tallaght, before being transferred to Beaumont Hospital.

He remained in a critical condition before dying this afternoon.

Gardai have appealed for any witnesses to come forward.
