Armed robbers pocket €10,000 from EU Parliament post office raid
Armed robbers struck in the European Parliament yesterday afternoon, pocketing less than €10,000 in the raid.
It happened as EU leaders, including Taoiseach Brian Cowen, were meeting under heavy security in the council building just 10 minutes down the road. The raid took place at around 2.15pm , at a branch of the Belgian post office located on the ground floor of the imposing Altiero Spinelli wing, where most MEPs' offices are located. According to a spokesman for the parliament, two men -- one armed -- forced two female staff to place "a small amount of money" in a bag.
It is the third time in two years the building has been hit.
