GARDAI surrounded a building last night in the hunt for a man being sought by the PSNI as part of a murder probe.
Officers mounted a major operation near the village of Burnfoot in Co Donegal in the search for Kieran McLaughlin (58), right, a veteran terrorist who has served a number of jail terms for weapons offences.
The PSNI named McLaughlin as the chief suspect in the brutal murder of Barry McCrory, who was shot dead in a flat in Derry city centre on Thursday morning.
Additional armed officers poured into fields surrounding the building just before midnight after being dropped off by helicopter.
Minutes later an ambulance arrived at the scene, thought to be a precaution. It is understood the owner of the house is away and McLaughlin had access to the house in the past.
There had been searches for McLaughlin all along the Border earlier in the day.
McLaughlin has been described as "mentally extremely unstable" and police have warned the public not to approach him. Sources said Gardai were securing the area before a review at dawn today.
