Approval rates drop by 85pc for new apartments
PLANNING permission was granted for just 98 apartments between June and September, an 85pc drop on the same period last year.
New figures from the Central Statistics Office also show that the number of permissions granted for new houses is also falling, down 18pc with just 1,540 approved in the third quarter of the year.
But there has been a slight increase in permissions granted for new agricultural buildings – some 231 were approved, compared with 194 in 2011.
The figures also show that most applications – 52pc of the total – are for one-off houses. The lowest number of homes granted permission is in Limerick city – just one was approved. The highest is in Co Cork, where 124 homes were approved.
