An animal welfare charity has appealed for foster homes for 12 kittens found dumped on the side of the road today.

The DSPCA said the kittens are believed to be from three separate litters.

Some of the kittens are as young as eight days old.

"These kittens will be heading out to foster care as they are still very young," the group said this evening in a Facebook post.

"These kittens are not available for rehoming just yet but we have so many other gorgeous kittens, cats and dogs looking for homes."

Anyone interested in fostering the kittens can email foster@dspca.ie.

Donations can be made to the charity by logging on to http://www.dspca.ie/donate.
