A 23-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the murder of Christy Daly.

Gardai investigating the murder of 47-year-old Christy Daly arrested the man in Tullamore earlier today.

Father-of-six Daly's remains were discovered in a drain at Bog Road, Kilbride, Clara on January 7.

Daly was shot eight times in the chest and the arm almost a week before his body was found in the rural area.

His body was discovered sitting upright in a six-foot drain on a bog lane, near where he had been living in a caravan since his release from the Midlands jail in Portlaoise on December 7 last.

Following the discovery, the remains were examined by State pathologist Dr Marie Cassidy.

Gardai became concerned for his safety after his caravan and two vehicles were found burnt out on the Friday, close to where his body was found.

The arrested man is currently detained under Section 50 Criminal Justice Act 2007 at Tullamore Garda Station.
