AN ambulance carrying a critically ill patient was in a collision with a car.

The crash occurred at around 4.20pm at a busy crossroads on the Tulla Road on the outskirts of Ennis, Co Clare. No one was injured.

There were five people in the ambulance including a medical team and an elderly man who had been admitted to Ennis General Hospital earlier with a suspected head injury.

The ambulance was transferring him to the Mid Western Regional Hospital at the time.

A second ambulance was sent to the scene to complete the patient transfer to Limerick.

The elderly driver and sole occupant of the car was unhurt but shaken by the incident. He did not require hospitalisation.
