HE has gone through a nightmare that most of us can't even imagine.

But Kevin McGarry had one of his biggest dreams come true when he met some of the greats of international rugby.

While in Dublin to play Ireland at the weekend, the New Zealand team invited the 23-year-old to meet the players and catch up with an old acquaintance.

All Blacks hooker Keven Mealamu first met the Roscommon native when he visited him in the National Burns Centre in Auckland three years ago. The young farm labourer had endured horrific burns and lost both his legs when his motorbike crashed into an electric fence while rounding cattle on a farm in August 2007.

"Keven lives near the hospital in Auckland, and one of the nurses there was a friend of his. I wasn't fit for talking but he was very chatty," Mr McGarry told the Irish Independent yesterday.

Mealamu described meeting Mr McGarry again as "fantastic", adding that the pair had "a good catch-up" when he appeared at the 'Captain's Run' the day before Saturday's match.

"He's a cool guy and he has great spirit and courage."
