Irish comedian Al Porter has spoken out about how his depression and anxiety got so bad he would double over in physical pain.

In an exclusive interview with the Sunday Independent, he said he is speaking out: "for the benefit of openness and authenticity" but he added it will be the only time he opens up about his struggle as he does not want his career to be defined by it.

The interview comes after his powerful speech on the use of anti-depressants reached more than a million people online following his appearance on Brendan O'Connor's award-winning Cutting Edge TV show. His words have resonated with viewers who contacted him to offer their support and share similar experiences.
