Aircraft with five people on board crashes in Longford

A light aircraft with five people on board crash landed shortly after take-off in Co. Longford today

The Cessna light aircraft was taking four people for a parachute jump but lost power shortly after it took off from Abbeyshrule airfield.

It landed in a field some three miles west of the village.

“The aircraft is substantially damaged. The field was badly rutted and the plane went nose first into the ground shortly after the emergency landing.

No-one was hurt.

Officials from the Air Accident Investigation Unit were promptly at the scene. They were due to recover the aircraft late this evening.
