Aine surprises listeners with low-key return
RTE's AINE Lawlor surprised Radio 1 listeners yesterday when she returned to work a day early.
The veteran 'Morning Ireland' journalist had been due to return on Monday following a nine-month battle with breast cancer, but made an unexpected return yesterday instead.
The 50-year-old has undergone gruelling treatment, including chemotherapy, radiation and a mastectomy, but got the all-clear in May.
And 'Morning Ireland' listeners gave the mother of four a warm welcome when she returned to the airwaves.
"She was supposed to return on Monday but wanted to slip in under the radar," an RTE spokesperson said yesterday.
"She's very down to earth and she wanted to come back without a big fuss," she added.
The garda Operation Slow Down and the ongoing chaos in Ulster Bank were among the topics discussed by Ms Lawlor on her first day back to work.
On Monday, Ms Lawlor will appear at the launch of the Boots' 'Night Walks for Night Nurses' event in St Stephen's Green in Dublin, which aims to raise money for the Irish Cancer Society.
