Aer Lingus said it had been forced to cancel a number of flights despite the airports reopening.

The airline released details that they have cancelled all flights from Dublin up until 12 noon today and a flight from Chicago to Dublin has been diverted to Shannon airport.

All flights to and from Shannon and Cork are expected to operate as normal with the exception of flights to London Heathrow/Gatwick, Amsterdam and Manchester due to airspace restrictions.

Flights from Belfast airport have been cancelled until 13:00 this afternoon and are planned to resume full operations after this time.

Ryanair has taken a similar stance, cancelling most flights until 12.45 today.
