The sheep was put into the back of the patrol car and brought back to Kevin Street Garda Station for the night.
Gardai tweeted about the incident from their official Twitter account, writing: "Wooly story! Sheep found in Oliverbond flats last night! Now safe at Kevin St Garda station DSPCA on the way."
The Dublin Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals has been notified of the incident.
The DSCPA told Independent.ie the sheep was due at the shelter just after noon today.
"She is from the Oliver Bond Flats so we have named her Special Agent Olivia Bond, Licenced to lamb!," a spokesperson said.
ARAN (Animal Rights Action Network)'s spokesperson told Independent.ie that the group plan to award the gardai who rescued the sheep with a 'Compassionate Action Award'.
