Killeen: trapped with son
A MAN trapped in his vehicle for 90 minutes in a road accident has secured €91,463 in High Court damages.
Retired carpenter James Killeen (55) of Malahide Road, Artane, Dublin, sued the driver of another car involved in the accident, Hongbo Guo of Bramley View, Castleknock, Dublin.
The accident occurred near Junction Five on the M50 in Dublin on November 16, 2007, when Mr Killeen's vehicle was struck violently from behind by Mr Guo's vehicle, which became lodged underneath the jeep.
He and his son Jack (12) were trapped for 90 minutes before the fire brigade released them by cutting the roof and a window. During this time, there was a strong smell of petrol, which caused Mr Killeen to become hysterical, the court heard.
