Some 80,000 people are expected to walk from Darkness Into Light tomorrow morning for suicide awareness.
At around 40 venues across Ireland, crowds will gather at 4.15am and complete a five-kilometre walk or run just as dawn is breaking.
The fundraiser now in its sixth year, is also taking place in Syndey and London.
The cities of Boston and New York are seeking to hold the event which highlights the issue of suicide.
The event is a fundraiser for Pieta House, the centre for the prevention of self-harm or suicide, which has been open since 2006.
CEO Joan Freeman said: “At Pieta House we know that we bring people from darkness into the light.”
“Our next generation, our children, will not be afraid to talk about suicide nor will they be afraid to seek help.”
“Eight out of ten people that come to us don’t have mental health issues or psychiatric issues; they’re reacting to life events.”
Ms Freeman added: “Thank you to the people of Ireland for doing this. It might be a little wet tomorrow morning, and certainly it’ll be cold, so thank you to everyone.”
