There are 530,000 people on public hospital waiting lists for inpatient, outpatient and day care, according to new figures released by the National Treatment Purchase Fund (NTPF).

Outpatient appointments were 430,000 in July, which is approximately a 10,000 increase from the month previously.

More than 70,000 outpatients have been waiting at least one year to be seen.

The data also revealed that 39,000 outpatients have been waiting longer than the 15-month “maximum” time set by the Government.

University Hospital Galway, Cork University Hospital and Beaumont Hospital in Dublin have the longest waiting lists.

The NTPF is an independent statutory body established by the Minister for Health.
