A steering group is working on a plan to keep Cistercian College in Roscrea open.

The trustees of the boys' boarding school say that, because of declining pupil numbers and financial unsustainability, the 112-year-old institution would have to close within two years.

Almost 500 people attended a meeting in Birr to examine options that include opening the school to day students, enrolling girls, five-day boarding as well as seven-day, and attracting more international pupils.
