44 filling stations closed in road fuel clampdown
REVENUE officers have shut down a total of 44 filling stations across the State in the past 18 months as a result of a tightening up of measures controlling the sale of road fuel.
Teams of officers involved in the crackdown on fuel laundering were involved.
The stations were shut for either operating without a licence or in breach of licence conditions.
Finance Minister Michael Noonan has warned that the crackdown will be backed up by measures included in the new finance legislation to enhance the control and supervision of the supply chain for fuels.
However, the crime gang bosses are opening up new markets for laundered fuel in the UK, Spain and the Czech Republic.
