40 year-old man arrested in connection with fatal hit-and-run last weekend

The fatal hit-and-run accident occurred in Fermanagh on Sunday at 2.50am.

Police in Enniskillen say a 40-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a fatal hit-and-run in Fermanagh last weekend.

The PSNI are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of Pat John McCafferty, 49, on the Tullychurry Road area of Leggs, Belleek, in the early hours of Sunday.

Police have recovered the blue Ford Focus which is believed to have been involved in the incident.  PSNI says it is liasing with gardai in relation to this investigation.

Gardai arrested the 40-year-old man on Sunday and he has since been released pending report to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

The PSNI says it intends to pursue a prosecution in relation to the death through the courts in Northern Ireland.

Police have renewed their appeal for any information following the incident that occurred at around 2.50am.

Anyone who was in the Tullychurry Road and/or Boa Island Road area before or after this time and saw the blue Ford Focus car, or any suspicious activity, is asked to contact police in Enniskillen on 0845 600 8000.
