GARDAI have smashed one of the State’s most prolific robbery gangs in a massive operation which was led by the Organised Crime Unit.

More than €300,000 worth of stolen property was recovered in the intelligence-led operation which took weeks of surveillance.

Four Dublin gangsters remain in garda custody today after the carefully coordinated operation. They are expected to appear in court later.

Heavily armed detectives searched a storage unit premises at Straffan, Co Kildare, at 9.30pm on Wednesday.

A garda spokesperson said: “A substantial amount of property believed to be stolen was located at this storage area and this property included commercial coffee machines, clothing and a range of vitamin products.”
