€250,000-a-year woman gives us a budget lecture
European Commissioner Maire Geoghegan-Quinn jumped into the treaty debate yesterday by warning that a No vote would leave us in a "financial no man's land".
She strongly backed the new budgetary rules -- saying: "Families all over Ireland manage their weekly and monthly budgets carefully -- it is very important that countries do the same."
Good to hear, but she shouldn't have to worry too much about weekly budgeting on a salary of just under €250,000. It would have been even better with her Oireachtas pensions worth €100,000 per year -- but she gave them up after a storm of public protest.
