2,500 protesters hold vigil to save hospital services
UP TO 2,500 people have taken part in a night-time protest as part of an ongoing campaign to save Waterford Regional Hospital.
Protesters formed a ring of light in an evening vigil at Waterford Regional Hospital on Saturday in a bid to save the hospital. The organisers from the Save Waterford group said that the aim was to "send a strong message to say that the south east will not let its hospital services be removed".
The proposed cuts were leaked from findings due in the Department of Health-commissioned Higgins report regarding a review of the delivery of hospital services nationally.
It is said to contain recommendations regarding realignment of specialist services in the region to Cork and Dublin.
