SOME 250 construction and IT jobs have been announced in counties Offaly and Dublin.

A new €140m wind energy project by Bord na Mona in Edenderry, Co Offaly, will create 150 construction jobs in an area blighted by unemployment.

Already 50 people are employed at the site and this is due to ramp up to 150 with jobs in electrical, mechanical and maintenance engineering.

Meanwhile, cyber security firm Mandiant announced it will be creating 100 jobs at its new engineering and security operations centre in Dublin. It has begun hiring software engineers, security operations staff and administration workers.

Jobs Minister Richard Bruton called the move "great news", saying the Government "will continue to build on Ireland's success in this area to create the jobs we need".
