2 youngsters die in farm accidents

Gardai and the Health and Safety Authority are investigating an incident in which a 14-year-old boy was killed on a farm in Limerick

A teenage boy and a young girl have died in separate farm accidents.

Health and safety chiefs confirmed that a 14-year-old boy was killed on a farm in Limerick, while a nine-year-old girl who was injured four days ago has died in hospital.

It is understood the teenager was working with his grandfather in Kilmeedy when he was electrocuted.

His body has been taken to the Mid-Western Hospital in Limerick for a post- mortem examination.

Gardai and the Health and Safety Authority (HSA) are investigating the incident.

The young girl was left fighting for her life after an accident on her parents' farm in Laois on Sunday.

She was pronounced dead at Temple Street Children's Hospital.

Investigations are continuing.

The HSA has said four people have died in farming accidents so far this year.
