A major national conference looking forward to how Ireland will position itself in a globalised future will be one of the centrepieces of the Ireland 2016 Centenary Programme taking place next year.

NUI Galway will host the conference on the theme of 'Ireland 1916-2016: The Promise and Challenge of National Sovereignty', which will include academic contributions from across higher education, both North and South, as well as from leading international figures.

The conference, to be held next November, will reflect on the vision invested in an independent Irish State by idealists and thinkers of the revolutionary generation 100 years ago.

It will also look to the challenges ahead and the visions that should inspire the Irish people as they face the future.
