LIVE: 1916 Easter Rising commemorations taking place
THE centenary of the 1916 rising will be commemorated over this Easter weekend, starting with a series of wreath laying ceremonies today.
Both President Michael D Higgins and his wife Sabina will be involved, laying wreaths at two separate ceremonies. President Higgins will lay a wreath at the Garden of Remembrance, while Sabina will remember Countess Constance Markievicz at Glasnevin Cemetery.
The acting Taoiseach Enda Kenny will be among those attending events today.
The ceremony signals the start of a full programme of events around Dublin City and beyond, honouring significant sites and figures who were involved in a seminal moment in Irish history.
