Collectors queue for hours to bag 1916 coins
Coin collectors queued outside the Central Bank from the early hours to get their hands on a piece of history - limited edition 1916 commemorative coins.
Tyrone Devlin (38) travelled from Longford to buy a 1916 €100 gold proof coin - which was being sold for €730. He said his latest purchase would be taking one of the prime slot in his collection. "I'm delighted to have been able to bag myself one of these beauties," he said.
"I've gotten five silver coins - one each for my children," said Shay Fenton from Castleknock.
The new coins also include a silver proof €15 coin costing €45, and a quarter ounce gold €50 coin costing €375. Each coin depicts Hibernia, the national personification of Ireland, and phrases from the Proclamation.
