€160,000 of cannabis seized

A MAN was in custody last night after gardai shut down a "cannabis grow house" and seized plants with an estimated street value of €160,000, writes Brendan Farrelly.

A 34-year-old Irishman was arrested at an industrial estate near Comagh Road in Kilbeggan, Co Westmeath, yesterday.

Gardai raided the unit and found 400 cannabis plants inside. A substantial amount of sophisticated equipment used for the cultivation of cannabis was also seized.

Gardai later carried out a follow up search in Rathangan, Co Kildare, and more cultivation equipment was found.

The arrested man is being held in Naas garda station.

The seizure was the latest in a series of successful raids across the country against the cannabis trade.
