132-reg sales are motoring, say car dealers

CAR DEALERS are reporting feverish activity in their showrooms as buyers are coming out in their thousands to purchase 132-reg motors.

Sales in the first eight days of the month are already well ahead of the total for July 2012, according to SIMI figures.

They claim that 4,675 new cars were registered in the first eight days. Car history experts Motorcheck.ie said even more than that had been registered.

With last July's total of 4,424 already outstripped, the question now is when the buying spree will stop. As of yesterday there was no sign of a let-up.

According to Brian Cooke, deputy director general of SIMI: "Dealers are extremely busy, with customers reacting to July special offers from manufacturers and dealers."
