MORE than 100 people had to be evacuated from a Cork city centre apartment complex after a fire in a ground floor food outlet.
The fire, which was detected shortly after 5.20am, resulted in the apartment complex on Camden Quay being evacuated as a safety measure.
There were no injuries involved.
Multiple units of Cork fire brigade attended the blaze which was brought under control within a matter of minutes.
However, substantial damage was caused to the food outlet which is located on the north bank of the River Lee within sight of Cork Opera House.
Traffic disruption was caused to city centre traffic as, to assist the work of emergency services, local roads and Christy Ring Bridge were temporarily closed.
Fire brigade units will remain at the scene for some time to assist in damping down operations.
Gardaí and fire brigade officials will inspect the premises involved later to determine the precise cause of the outbreak.
However, the fire is being treated as accidental.
