Fashion Friday: Red Carpet Secrets
Following in the footsteps of Amanda Byram and Laura Whitmore, tv presenter, stylist and all around cool girl Angela Scanlon has just been announced as the face of Dublin Fashion Festival.
If there’s anyone who knows a thing or two about red carpet style general, it’s Angela. So we pick her oh-so fashionable brain on how to get ready with style...
If I’ve only got 5 mins to get ready I... pull back my hair into a messy chignon or ponytail and slick on some bright lipstick, Chanel 'Pirate' or Topshop's 'Brighton Rocks' are my go-to shades. Next it’s boyfriend jeans and something a bit bold on top, a statement sweater or printed shirt, heels always make me feel dressed up and are my favourite element.
My ultimate red carpet beauty look is... a little dishevelled. I don't like to look too 'done' or too polished and I certainly don't have a formula. I love dressing up and having fun with clothes so I never take it too seriously. I don't follow rules as such and hate the idea of a dress code so I march to the beat of my own drum, as the saying goes. It sometimes goes horribly wrong, other times, not so much.
My party hair rules are.. I prefer to look slightly DIY. That's always the brief, it should look like I've done it myself, hair down and a bit grungy or in a laid-back knot. I hate when it looks too clean.
My top 3 style rules are...
1. Wear shoes you can walk in, they don't need to be comfortable but you shouldn't be hobbling.
2. If in doubt, dress down. I think it's better to look slightly effortless than overcooked!
3. If you choose to wear something a little left-field then enjoy it and own it. Confidence is an attitude so if you believe you look great others will too!
