We might be an island but digitally we are connected to the world through the web and are at risk, like any country, from cyber attacks.
In the past few years, Distributed-Denial-of-Service (DDOS) attacks have occurred in Ireland on public sector departments for example and other attacks could target data and information around trade negotiations or focus on the tech multinationals who have their headquarters here, says cybersecurity consultant, Brian Honan.
"Nation state attacks have occurred before, such as those on Sony, Estonia, Georgia and Iran and will become a more common feature of future attacks on nation states in future years."
Brian Honan will be speaking at Dublin Info Sec 2016, Ireland's leading cyber security conference in the RDS on 15th November.
