A woman has been treated for shock and hypothermia in Co Kerry after her car became submerged in water last night.

Ballybunion Sea and Cliff Rescue Service, the Shannon-based Coast Guard helicopter and the Ballybunion Coast Guard Unit rushed to her rescue at around 7.15pm.

The rescue crews located the woman’s car semi-submerged in the sea by the R115 at Clounamon, Asdee.

The woman had been in Kerry visiting friends.

She was treated at the scene and transferred to Kerry General Hospital by ambulance and is expected to make a full recovery.

Rescue crews praised the woman for keeping calm, and they said the situation could have been drastically worse if she hadn't been so patient and calm.
