Two men have died following separate road collisions on Christmas Eve.

In the first incident, a man died and another man was injured following a road collision on Christmas Eve.

The tragedy occurred near Cahir, Co Tipperary, late yesterday afternoon.

The driver of the car – a  man in his sixties died - following the single vehicle collision which occurred at 4pm on the M8 Motorway northbound near the junction at Cahir.

The incident occurred when the car left the motorway and crashed into a ditch.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

A man – a man in his 20s – was taken by ambulance to Clonmel Hospital although his injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

The road was closed as the scene was subjected to a forensic examination.

Gardai in Cahir are appealing for any witnesses to contact them on 052 744 5630.

The second incident occurred late last night near Lisburn in Northern Ireland.

A man in his fifties died following the collision late last night.

The PSNI are also appealing for witnesses.
