Two Irish soldiers arrested over pipebomb

Bomb Disposal Unit

Two members of the defence forces have been arrested following the discovery of a pipebomb.

The two soldiers – a man and a woman – were being questioned today by gardai in relation to the incident which occurred on Monday.

A viable device was found at a residence in Burnfoot, Co Donegal.

The Army Bomb Disposal Unit was called to the scene and dealt with the device.

The two serving soldiers were subsequently arrested.

It is believed the incident is connected to a row between two groups of soldiers, with both sides issuing threats to the other.
